You can grow avocados almost anywhere.
Use the simple and affordable ideas for young avocado tree protection presented by us.
For outdoor planting, including inside outdoor enclosures:
- Choose the sunniest spot as avocado trees do not like shady patches.
- A wind sheltered area which is around 10 m away from large trees is best.
- A slightly sloping location with good free draining soil is preferred.
- Even with a good soil structure and other ideal conditions it is best to grow avocados on a mound or a planter box.
- Use the special soil mix formula from AvoPro which is easy to mix or order from suppliers. The formula is in our free eBooks.
- For The Best and super fast results: Grow different A and B type avocado varieties, close together.
- Protect your young avocado trees with a simple windbreaker structure for the first few years.
- Water just enough to keep the soil moist but Never Wet. Remember This: “Plant On A Mound”.
- Keep your avocado trees dwarf or small. See our eBooks on how to do this best.
- For the cooler regions cover the windbreak structure with Frost Cover or Frost Cloth during frost periods.
- If you are in the really cold regions grow them inside a non heated greenhouse.
Remember to let your young avocado trees to soak up the sun and get air circulation when there is no danger of frost.
With a bit of extra effort you can design and make all covers and windbreakers roll back.
